Matthew J Hoffman: Music
Old Ancient
Old Ancient is a collaborative effort between Bryce Dickerson and myself. Thanks go to Bryce, who -- through his outstanding talent as a sample re-mixer and musician-- created the backing track for this song. He named the original instrumental track "Old Ancient."
This song is my reflection on the unchanging elements in our universe, particularly God and his timeless Truth. The lyrics of "Old Ancient" aim to put into perspective the relationship between God and his creation.

(VERSE1) Everyday, I seem to get inspired
Everyday,The sun's a little brighter
No one knows this feelin that's inside of me
Unless I speak and tell of what they cannot see
Threats of wars, and worth cannot weigh me down
'Cause things not of this world is where my hope is found
In a time of strife, heavy hearts talk of brighter days
Future hope, in a flash everything will change
You see, I take the promises of God to be true
That one day all things that He made will be new
The truth is simple not some rocket science
Reducing the complex down to common sense.
(CHORUS)
And on, and on, and on
(VERSE2) Where do I begin? The truth you see is not a fantasy.
But in this post-modern world It's like everyone's an expert and a critic.
Lookin' through eyes of a cynic sayin' "If it's right for me, then it's right for me."
Einstein might make "Relativity" work But when it comes to truth it makes a man berserk.
Personally, I'd rather give up the game if the rules are made by me and by my name.
So let's condense the nonsense, and get down to business give up consensus of what we profess.
Namely: the self-centered, self-righteous views of truth And simply believe with the faith of youth.
(CHORUS)
And on, and on, and on
(GUITAR SOLO)
(VERSE3) Which brings us now to verse three, The culmination of our little simile.
Where ideas are dropped and knocked around the block.
Where those brave enough to ask the question,
Will speak, with Truth as their protection.
See Truth is eternal, and it's never changin'
Yet time marches on, and is ever agin'. (tick-tock)
But without a foundation, our brains are raging
Thinkin' reason alone with be our salvation. (salvation)
But if my eyes were focused only on myself,
I would prob'ly leave the book of truth up on the shelf.
And maybe that's why I feel so free,
I'm not afraid to believe in something that didn't start with me.
(CHORUS)
And on, and on, and on
